4.1.3 - Tectonic Plates
Earth’s outermost layer is fragmented into plates that are moving relative to one another as they sit on top of the hot, semifluid material beneath them. Explaining Task: Watch the Plate Tectonics Explained YouTube clip and have a go at explaining what Plate Tectonics are in your own words. Doing Task: Peel an orange (without a knife) and try to piece the peel back together again. Thinking Task: How does the orange peel relate to the idea of plate tectonics? If you don't have an orange have a look at the image to the right. Activity: Complete the Plate Tectonics Worksheet using the Plate Tectonics image below. When you are finished identifying the plates complete the questions below: 1.What do you observe about the size of the tectonic plates? 2.What do you observe about the countries on the different plates? 3.Do the plates split in expected places?

4.1.4 - Tectonic Plate Movements
There are three way Tectonic Plates interact with each other called Divergent, Convergent and Transform. Defining Task: Using the YouTube videos create an definition for the following:
Explaining Task: How do these different crusts react when they converge with each other?
Doing Task: Get two square biscuits and some Activity: Complete the Going Deep with Plate Tectonics Worksheet and then attempt the Oreo Tectonic activity in the YouTube video below. Take a photo of each Tectonic Plate example and label them with their identifications.
